In 1989 I was living up in Stockton, CA. Mom sent many letters, which always brightened my day. On one occasion she inserted a parchment with the poem “When I am an Old Woman” printed on it.
I just ran across the letter and here is a scan of the poem…
At the time I remember smiling and then folding it up and sticking it back in the envelope with the letter she wrote.
Now, 26 years later, I read it and realize that she lived this poem. Maybe not to the letter, but certainly in spirit.
I love you Mom. And, I hope they have red hats wherever you are…you always looked good in hats!
